Visit to Warming Centre – Insensitive government policies result in suffering for homeless

On Friday, February 3, the temperature in Barrie plummeted to a record-breaking low of 25 degrees Celsius below zero. There are warming centres to provide shelter for people.

We visited one of the centres located within Collier United Church at 112 Collier Street. It is operated by John Howard Society of Simcoe Muskoka (JHSSM) and opens at 8:30pm if the temperature is below -15 degrees Celsius.

We talked to its executive director Hayley Murdoch-Fyke, staff Sydney and Lauryn Margarit and clients.
